Behind the Scenes: A Day in the Life at Simply Ice Cream

Ever wondered what goes into making Simply Ice Cream? While the end result may look effortlessly delicious, there’s a lot of hard work - and love - that happens behind the scenes every single day.

Here’s a peek into a typical day in our kitchen, where small batches and big flavours come to life.

8:00 AM – Fresh Ingredients Arrive

We start early, receiving deliveries from our local suppliers. It might be fresh cream from a nearby dairy, just-picked fruit from a Kentish farm, or a new batch of cobnut fudge from our friends at Fudge Kitchen.

We check every delivery by hand - no shortcuts here. If something doesn’t meet our standards, it doesn’t make it into the mix.

9:30 AM – Prep Begins

Once ingredients are checked and stored, prep begins. Fruit is washed, hulled, chopped or cooked depending on the flavour we’re making. Chocolate is melted. Gingerbread cookies are baked. Every element is handled with care to ensure maximum flavour and freshness.

11:00 AM – Hand-Whisking & Mixing

This is where the magic happens. Each batch is whisked by hand to achieve the perfect consistency. This gentle process helps preserve the natural texture of our ingredients and gives the ice cream its luxurious, smooth finish.

Unlike industrial machines, our method gives us more control over how each flavour comes together - and it’s part of why our customers can taste the difference.

1:00 PM – Freezing and Packing

Once the mix is ready, it gets hand potted into our signature tubs before going into the freezer to set slowly, locking in flavour and creating that rich, dense texture that defines Simply Ice Cream.

Once frozen each tub is checked, packed by hand, and sent on its way to our local stockists and customers.

3:00 PM – Clean Down & Quality Checks

Every tool, surface, and piece of equipment is cleaned thoroughly after each batch. We also taste-test at every stage - yes, it’s a tough job! But it ensures the quality and consistency you’ve come to expect from us.

4:30 PM – Planning Tomorrow’s Flavours

With the day winding down, we begin prepping for tomorrow. That means reviewing seasonal produce, checking stock, and sometimes experimenting with a new flavour idea.
